2019 Knees Area Field Day is scheduled for July 9

MAES-MSU Western Triangle Agricultural Research Center (WTARC) and MSU Extension are hosting a field day in the Knees area on July 9th at 9:00 a.m. The site is located ¾ of a mile west of the intersection of Knees Church Road and Collins Road.

John Miller (WTARC Research Scientist) will evaluate winter wheat varieties seeded at the Killion test plot, and share his research on Crystal Green®. According to the website at crystalgreen.com, Crystal Green® optimizes crop performance by providing plants with a more efficient source of nutrients compared to conventional phosphate fertilizers. Crystal Green® is the first continuous release fertilizer to provide Root-Activated™ phosphorus, along with nitrogen and magnesium, (5-28-0 with 10%Mg), to feed crops in one season-long application.

Dr. Jamie Sherman (MSU Barley Breeder) will share research based information on barley varieties for the Knees area. Tyler Lane (MSU Extension Chouteau County) will update producers on spring wheat varieties in the test plot.

In conclusion, Dr. Gadi VP Reddy (WTARC Entomologist/Insect Ecologist) will discuss biological control methods for insect pests on cereal crops. WTARC staff and Extension agents will be in attendance to answer agronomy and entomology questions.
